How to Get Your Business Cited in AI Answers

AI answers cite a page when it answers a real question in language a person can quote, the business name is consistent, and the words are in the HTML. There is no setting that forces ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, or Perplexity to name you.

Answer the question in the first paragraph

Search engines and answer engines both lift the sentence that settles the question. Put that sentence first. Follow it with the conditions, the steps, and the exceptions. A page that builds suspense for three screens is a page an AI cannot quote.

Write the question the way a buyer asks it. “How do I choose a marketing agency” and “I need marketing help” are different questions. Each one deserves its own page if you want to be the source for both.

Make the page readable without the design

If the words live in an image, or they only appear after JavaScript builds the page, many crawlers receive an empty document. Google often runs JavaScript. A lot of AI fetchers do not. The fix is ordinary: the answer has to be in the HTML response.

Add a FAQ when you have specific answers. Mark the questions and answers with FAQ schema so a machine can find the pairs. Schema does not invent authority. A vague FAQ will be ignored, tagged or not.

Use one name everywhere

Pick the public name and use it on the site, the Google profile, Bing, and the other places buyers already look. If the site says one name and the profile says another, an answer engine may not connect them. Say who you serve and where, in text, on the page you want cited.

Measure citations, then fill the gaps

A citation is a page of yours used as a source in an answer. It is not a like, and it is not an ad impression. Check Google’s AI answers, ChatGPT, and the other engines your buyers use. Note the question, whether you were named, and which URL was used.

CORA is how Carazo watches that for a brand: which engines name you, which pages are doing it, and what is missing. The page still has to exist. The tool does not replace the writing.

One engagement where citations started in Gemini, ChatGPT, and Google AI Mode is the outdoor wood-care recovery. That is one site. A cross-client count of which page types get cited is not on this site yet, because that sample has not been closed.

Paid ads remain useful for demand you want this week. They do not create the citation. They can send people to the page that might earn one.

Questions people ask

How do I get my business cited in ChatGPT or Copilot?

Publish a page that answers the question in the first paragraph, put the business name on that page, and make the words available in the HTML. Then use the same name on the profiles and pages those systems already trust. There is no switch that forces a citation.

What is GEO?

GEO, generative engine optimization, is the work of making your pages clear enough to be quoted in AI answers. It uses the same ingredients as good SEO: a real question, a direct answer, a consistent name, and text a crawler can read.

Do FAQ pages help AI citations?

Yes, when the questions are ones buyers actually ask and the answers are specific. A FAQ that repeats slogans does not help. A FAQ schema tag helps machines find the question and answer pairs. It does not replace a good answer.

Can I pay to be cited by an AI?

Ads can put you in front of people. They are not the same as an AI answer choosing your page as a source. Citations come from pages that are useful and readable. Paid media can send people to those pages. It does not write the citation.
