How to choose a marketing agency
Choose a marketing agency by the work you need shipped, who will actually do it, and whether you can see the results. A pitch deck is not a plan. A logo wall is not proof they understand your buyer.
Decide the job before the search
Write the outcome for the first 90 days in one line. More qualified calls. A site that explains the offer. A search presence for the questions buyers ask. Ads that stay inside a number you approve. If you cannot name the job, every agency will sound qualified, because they will describe their process instead of your result.
Questions worth asking
- Who does the work, and will I meet them?
- What ships in a normal month, in pages, posts, or campaigns, not in hours?
- How do you decide the first page or campaign to touch?
- How is ad spend approved, and how do I pause it?
- What will I be able to read myself, without a translator?
- Show me a finished example for a business with a similar problem.
Listen for a specific answer. “It depends” is fair once. It is a warning if it is the answer to all six.
Signs to walk away
- They promise a ranking, a revenue number, or a viral result before they know the offer.
- The people on the call are not the people who will do the work, and they will not introduce them.
- Reporting is a score you cannot trace to a page, a campaign, or a lead.
- They want to rebuild everything before they can say what is already working.
Fit is narrower than “full service”
Full service only helps if the pieces share a plan. Brand that the ads ignore is not full service. SEO pages that the paid team never uses are not full service. Ask how a change in the offer shows up in the site, the creative, and the campaigns in the same month.
Carazo Creative is built that way: brand, creative, and growth in one system, with CORA showing whether search and AI answers name the brand. If that is the job, start with a conversation. If you only need one specialist, hire that specialist.
Questions people ask
How do I choose a marketing agency?
Decide what must ship in the first 90 days, ask who will do that work, and ask how you will see it. Choose the agency that can show finished work like yours and can explain the result without hiding behind a dashboard.
What questions should I ask a marketing agency?
Ask who does the work, what a normal month includes, how spend is approved, what happens if you want to pause, and which pages or campaigns they would touch first. Ask to see a real example, not only a logo wall.
Are cheap marketing agencies a bad idea?
A low fee is a bad idea when it buys a shared junior team and a report you cannot act on. A focused scope at a clear price is fine. Price only makes sense next to what ships.
Should I hire a local marketing agency?
Hire local when the business depends on a city and you want someone who can see it. Hire for the skill when the buyers are not limited to one city. Either way, the pages and the name have to match the place you actually serve.
