Google Ads or Social Media Ads: Where to Spend First
Spend first where the demand already is. Use Google ads when people search for what you sell. Use social ads on Meta or Instagram when you need to introduce the offer to people who were not searching. Start with one channel, one page, and an amount you can pause.
The page does more work than the ad
An ad’s job is to earn the click or the tap. The page’s job is to explain the offer and ask for one next step. If the page is vague, a better audience will not save it. Fix the page before you raise the budget. The same standard is in marketing help.
Search ads and social ads
Use search ads, usually on Google, when people already type the problem or the service. You are buying a place next to that search. Use social ads, usually on Meta and Instagram, when you need to introduce the offer to people who fit the customer and were not searching yet.
Do not start with five campaigns. One result, one page, one place. Add a second only after you can read what the first one did. Creative should look like the brand, not like a template from a different company. That is covered in creative help.
Spend you can stop
Name the amount for the week or the month before anyone builds the campaign. You should be able to see the spend and pause it. A report that only shows clicks, with no path to the page and the action you wanted, is not enough.
Nobody can honestly promise a customer count before the offer and the page exist. A short test tells you the cost. Then you decide whether to continue.
When an ads agency is worth it
Hire when you are spending enough that a wrong setup is expensive, or when search, social, and the creative need one owner. A media buyer who never reads the landing page will optimize the wrong thing. Carazo Creative plans paid media with the brand, the site, and social, for clients in Florida, Southern California, and elsewhere. Campaigns stay off until you have seen them.
Dated account results, with the limits stated, are the four-marketplace record, the prestige beauty Amazon comparison, the year of DTC spend, and the 22-day off-season furniture test. The matching hire pages are marketplace selling, Amazon for prestige beauty, and high-ticket ads in a slow season.
Questions people ask
I need help with ads. Where do I start?
Write the offer, pick the one page people should land on, and decide the amount you can spend and pause. Choose search ads when people are already looking, and social ads when you need to introduce the offer. Do not run both until the page is clear.
What is the difference between Google ads and social ads?
Google ads answer a search someone already typed. Social ads introduce an offer to people who match a description. Search is closer to demand that exists today. Social puts a clear offer in front of people who were not searching yet.
Do I need an advertising agency?
Not to define the offer and the page. Hire one when the account, the creative, and the landing page need to stay aligned and you want someone accountable for that.
How much should a small business spend on ads?
Start with an amount you can pause without hurting the business, aimed at one result. A small budget that matches the cost of the result you want is more useful than a large budget split across five goals. Test, read the numbers, then decide whether to scale.
